Rest For Your Soul

Rest For Your Soul

Today’s Text: Psalm 23:2

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. Psalm‬ ‭23:2‬ ‭

Sheep left to themselves will struggle and eventually wander into danger.

But, sheep led by a devoted shepherd will thrive. A good shepherd knows where and how to lead his sheep. He understands the importance of proper rest and a healthy diet.

He leads his sheep to a place of “green pastures” to find both rest and plenty to eat.

As Christians today, we live in a fast-paced, anxiety-filled society. Constant deadlines, threats, and pressures leave us with physical stress. That physical stress can lead to spiritual unrest. It can also lead to an unhealthy diet and neglect for being spiritually fed by God’s Word.

Society isn’t slowing down, so what is our hope as Christians? How can we find rest both physically and spiritually for our souls?

The answer is Jesus. He is our Good Shepherd. Trust His leading.

Jesus commands us to rest physically. “But how do I get everything done that needs to be done?” Trust God. If he tells you to rest…rest. The spiritual unrest in your life from anger or worry… give to your Good Shepherd. “But what if the problem doesn’t go away?” Trust your Good Shepherd. He loves you. He will care for you.

One way to help with spiritual unrest is to consider your spiritual diet. Are you feeding on God’s Word? Do you have a healthy diet of God’s Word in your life through personal reading, preaching, and teaching? So often, we feed our souls with an abundance of weeds from social media, news, Netflix, and so on and wonder why we are so anxious and troubled.

A daily portion of milk and meat from God’s Word will help bring rest to our lives both physically and spiritually.
