“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you?”
That is the question James opens with in this section of verses. Who thinks they are wise?
James wasn’t looking for a show of hands though. He said prove it with your life!
Back in James’s day there were some that he was writing too that wanted to be leaders and teachers, but they could not control their tongue and they could not control their emotions.
James uses these verses to contrast a worldly, fleshly, devilish style of wisdom that leads to instability and chaos with a wisdom that comes from God.
